What is MCP? The plumbing that lets AI actually do things.

Everyone talks to ChatGPT and Claude. But talking isn't doing. MCP is the standard that turns a chatbot into an operator.

You can ask an AI almost anything today. But the moment it needs to do something — read your ad account, change a budget, query a spreadsheet — the magic stops. That gap is exactly what MCP closes.

What MCP is

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol — an open standard (introduced by Anthropic in 2024) that connects AI assistants to external tools and data sources. The simplest analogy: MCP is the USB-C port for AI. One connector, many devices — instead of hand-building a bespoke integration for every connection.

The problem it solves

A language model is smart but sandboxed. It only sees what's in the chat. For it to read your Meta account or update a Google Sheet, it needs a bridge. Every one of those bridges used to be a custom build. MCP standardises it: build once, use anywhere.

How it works — in plain terms

  • An MCP server exposes "tools" (e.g. "list campaigns", "set budget") and data.
  • An MCP client — your AI app (Claude, Cursor, others) — calls those tools.
  • Because both speak the same protocol, any client works with any server. No vendor lock-in.

MCP turns your AI from an advisor that talks into an operator that acts.

What that means for marketing

This is where it gets interesting for us. With MCP you can:

  • Pull live numbers from Meta, TikTok and Google straight into a chat — "which campaign dropped below 1.5 ROAS this week?"
  • Adjust budgets by asking, instead of clicking through five menus.
  • Build reports on request, query your CRM leads, get anomalies flagged automatically.

In short: you talk to your ad account instead of operating it.

Why we build these at BOZ

We build MCP servers so our team — and our clients — can steer campaigns in plain language, with a human approval on anything that matters. We made one public: our TikTok Ads MCP. Free, open source, ready to use.
